Terrible Culture

Pros

Clinical experience, patient contact, physician contacts

Cons

Low pay (which they lied about), few non-ER opportunities (which they also lied about), incompetent 20 year old kids in authority positions (think high school mean girl type cliques). Your job is to try and fill out the electronic health record so that the hospital can bill at the highest level and get the maximum reimbursement possible from the insurance companies. If you make the hospital more money than you cost them in scribes, mission accomplished. "Making the physicians jobs easier" because ultimately "helps patients", all lies. you drive up deductibles and cost patients more money by maximizing billing. You are an added layer of leech on a bloated system. And the company itself has a toxic culture.

Pros

Get to talk amongst doctors in the medical field that you want to go in after your undergraduate years

Cons

- Pay - Biased co-workers - Don't get a lunch break - Often work at multiple facilities so be free to move around a lot - The scheduling was AWFUL. They made you sign up for multiple days even if you just wanted to work a certain amount of days for PT and would still schedule you for the days you needed off because of other obligations - Everyday you'll get emails from other scribes asking you to take their shift because they were improperly scheduled - 10-12 hour shifts MINIMUM

Horrible Company to Work for

Pros

Good experience if you want to apply to medical school.

Cons

Company treated me horribly. I was dropped in the middle of a training week because my trainer didn't want to train me individually. I was lied to at every step of the process. I was told I would not be paid for training even though my contract said I was. The night of my interview at 9pm I was told I had the job and had to memorize 200 words for a test the next day that I needed to get a 90% on and could not take again. The next day they said the test would actually be tomorrow. The training was horrible. It consisted of typing about 200 additional words we had to memorize. The company could not just give us a sheet with these words because they thought we would steal their amazing training material or something. Even though they had given me a list to pass the first test. The rest of the training was just scrolling through hundreds of slides with words we should just "know how to spell/be familiar with" but not to memorize. The standards set for a pass on each test were lies. Once I started working there is no real lunch break because you have to input information into the charts. The working conditions are horrible, you have to stand while typing and the angle your wrist will be will defiantly get you carpal tunnel. My wrists and back would hurt each day after work. DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE DISRESPECTED AND USED. They pay you 8/hr to do a lot of working with no real training under a lot of stress. Just volunteer or be a medical receptionist on your year off and get into medical school that way.
