Pros

It only benefits you to do this kind of work if you are going into the medical field.

Cons

You only make $8/hr,( I can make more flipping burgers)and are suppose to receive a raise after your 90 days but not guaranteed. While I was being trained book and floor my project manager made me feel so belittled and stupid. My fist 2 days of floor traing I ask a question and was told to figure it out on my own while my manager was on the computer playing a game. I alsi delt with schedule being changed, taking away days so that it could accommodate my manager training someone. I would really prefer to actually get some sort of notice except for just and "when to work email". I was told I would be full time but that was not the case at all.

Pros

Great for the Pre-med student Exposure to medicine in real-time Possibility of LOR from a Physician

Cons

The hours are tiring Scheduling and taking time off is sometimes difficult Starts at $8, goes up to $10. Room to get more if you decide to become a trainer or Junior Leader. No feasible while in school....

ScribeAmerica requires its employees to work a certain number of shifts per week in order to meet the needs of the facility we staff and maintain employment, but ScribeAmerica attempts to work around employee school schedules to the extent it is possible. Because we work as a medical provider's electronic documentation assistant, our shift times mirror those of the provider and can sometimes be long or at night given that medicine is a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week industry. For those employees truly interested in a career in medicine, the position of scribe can be a very real glimpse into the realities of healthcare.

Pros

For anyone interested in entering the medical profession, working as a scribe offers unparalleled experience with terminology, procedures, medical decision making, and patient interaction. It's a good and flexible transitional job for college students/recent graduates prior to attending health professional school.

Cons

The supply for scribes is large enough that the company is able to "exploit" their employees by offering minimum wage pay, poor hours, and no benefits. There's very little room for upward mobility within the company. Because of these factors, most employees stay for a short duration.

Scribes at ScribeAmerica currently receive an increased wage once they pass through our training protocol and have developed the skills necessary to work one-on-one with a provider. ScribeAmerica provides a cost of living wage increase annually for employees who have worked at the company for a pre-determined length of time, and additional raises are based on performance and promotions to positions with greater responsibility. ScribeAmerica provides opportunities for breaks and meal periods, and pays overtime wages in accordance with applicable federal or state law. While ScribeAmerica does not disclose the wages of its employees or management, our Project Leader career path is compensated at based on the fact that the position requires constant nationwide travel. Working as a scribe can be very challenging, but enormously rewarding for the right person. However, we are glad you had a memorable and excellent experience which will aid in your future career.
