Pros

Overall this is a great company, but it depends what area you're in. I've been here for 10 years and have had a number of growth opportunities. My manager gives me a lot of freedom and flexibility. I've personally experienced fantastic work/life balance, but it depends on your manager/department. The people are great here and there are many who've spent there entire career here, which says something. The company culture has been poor in the past but this is (slowly) improving in recent years due to new leadership, outside hires and more younger generation hires who are trying to turn things around.

Cons

This company is old school in so many ways. The promote from within philosophy has served the company well to some extent, but it has also hurt Securian because they have a very difficult time moving forward, trying new things, thinking outside of the box, etc. due to people wanting to do things the way they've always been done. They are lacking in a big way when it comes to current technology and innovation. Lastly, leadership is turning around in some areas but still needs a massive overhaul throughout the company. There is a lot of old leadership here that is holding the company back and leadership in general needs to be more consistent across the company. The new CEO is great, but the majority of senior management is poor.
