Pros

Variety of technologies to work on, both in data centers and in the field. Given lots of responsibility to manage technology for business projects. Work hours and locations somewhat flexible. Staff mostly friendly.

Cons

Pay is lower than industry rates. Much of the technology is not cutting edge. Too many short-term contractors don't know what they're doing. Management can be aloof or non-responsive, especially when it comes to supporting employees. If it's not on fire, don't expect it to get much attention from managers when you need it. Hiring and contracts take forever, and the onboarding process is total chaos.
