Pros

Sempra serves a diverse population in California and elsewhere across the US, and they match that in their support for diversity in the workplace. They genuinely live up to what can be in many organizations a "tick-it, done-that" wave of the hand to creating an harassment free, inclusive workplace. Great facilities in the Downtown office HQ building geared to getting the best out of employees. Great pay and bonus structure also. You need to work hard for it, but support from team members and the infrastructure and culture give you the ability to succeed. Been here six years and I cannot see me wanting to move. Oh, and "them at the top" (the 15th and 16th floor executives), I have to say are one clever bunch of people. If this sounds like a "fan boy" post, it is not meant to be: my opinion, my career - it's what I see.

Cons

Well, once every 20 years or so, Downtown gets taken over by the All Star MLB game. Makes getting in and out of the area more painful. Wish we could innovate more, but then we are not Google!

Pros

Sempra Energy is an environment where professionals of all backgrounds can find a good fit for their career ambitions, from the newbie fresh out of college and entering the Financial Leadership Program to seasoned management. Transition to different roles within the Company is not only available, but actively encouraged, allowing for a variety of experiences within different job functions, different business units, and different locations in the US and Latin America. Sempra Energy is 1 of 2 Fortune 500 companies in San Diego and is primarily engaged in the regulated utility sector which provides unique risks and perspectives, but can insulate against some of the traditional risk factors affecting for-profit businesses. Additionally, Sempra's outlook is major expansion beyond the current earnings makeup providing better diversification and a strong future. Benefits at Sempra are relevant and include fitness subsidies, free parking in Downtown San Diego or a public transport subsidy, strong 401K, health insurance benefits package, and an environment of active innovation and process improvement.

Cons

Large organization with many layers of management means that change can be slow as ideas are thoroughly considered before approval. No ESPP for general Company staff at Sempra. Re-organizations have been somewhat common over past 10 years meaning that there is regular change in structure, management, and reporting (though this may be a pro also as it indicates regular attempts to improve).
