Pros

Sempra Energy is an environment where professionals of all backgrounds can find a good fit for their career ambitions, from the newbie fresh out of college and entering the Financial Leadership Program to seasoned management. Transition to different roles within the Company is not only available, but actively encouraged, allowing for a variety of experiences within different job functions, different business units, and different locations in the US and Latin America. Sempra Energy is 1 of 2 Fortune 500 companies in San Diego and is primarily engaged in the regulated utility sector which provides unique risks and perspectives, but can insulate against some of the traditional risk factors affecting for-profit businesses. Additionally, Sempra's outlook is major expansion beyond the current earnings makeup providing better diversification and a strong future. Benefits at Sempra are relevant and include fitness subsidies, free parking in Downtown San Diego or a public transport subsidy, strong 401K, health insurance benefits package, and an environment of active innovation and process improvement.

Cons

Large organization with many layers of management means that change can be slow as ideas are thoroughly considered before approval. No ESPP for general Company staff at Sempra. Re-organizations have been somewhat common over past 10 years meaning that there is regular change in structure, management, and reporting (though this may be a pro also as it indicates regular attempts to improve).

Pros

Good steady job 7:00-3:30. Women are making a dent in the "Good old boy's club". The gas entity of Sempra shuold continue to do well.

Cons

A long history of racism against African American employee's. HR policies haven't been revised since the early 90's. Very top heavy in District Management. Not a bright future on the electric side of the company. The Electric side (SDG&E) could be sold or contracted out and the company will still do fine, because Natural Gas is about to take off nation wide.

Pros

Some departments were wonderful and people were loyal, dedicated and worked for several years until retirement. I think that's how it is for most of Sempra and I would love to work there again, just in another department

Cons

Internal department politics played into how I felt about my experience at Sempra.
