Pros

- good pay, health insurance package, and compensation (at least, they were when I worked there) - great A- and B-level colleagues, with some good lads in the C-level as well, especially in the dev dept - an amazing place to get an in-depth 360 marketing experience, with sophisticated and thought-through campaigns (unless, launched in a hurry, with vague goals and KPIs) - an ok work/life balance outside of periods of yet another structural reform and/or huge marketing campaigns coming out of the blue

Cons

- instant changes for the sake of changes, which can affect your position in a blink of an eye: today you are valued and cherished, tomorrow you are downgraded or even given a boot - many people on the C-level and above are narrow-minded personas, with cult-like following and a suck-up admiration from both the lower-level employees and C-level executives (thanks to that, they sustain through the years in the company) - the CEO easily falls for weird and unprofessional jabber, which hugely affects the hiring policy resulting in onboarding people with little or irrelevant to the position experience in the industry; this, in turn, triggers recurring structural changes because every 3-6 months the company bumps into bottlenecks in the form of internal conflicts and inefficient workflows; - The HR department is a cool kids club that doesn't give a flying flunk about employees: in my department, there were four HR managers changing one another, and none of them was a real professional—all of them were reluctant to solve difficult situation whenever one would come up, and were ok with making you fill in for a job, for which they were unable to find an employee; HRs also did not care about your mental health—I was personally told to "start taking hormone pills to cheer up and chill out"

Pros

- good commission if you reach your target - amazing product - great reputation - great people ( not managers and leadership)

Cons

terrible treatment of the sales team! 1) Leadership hates salespeople Everyone knows that the leadership hates the sales dep. and sees no value in salespeople. They think the product will sell itself. yes, true, it will if you want to get $120 deals. 2) CONSTANT CHANGES!! The leadership frequently implements significant changes to rules and commission structures every 2-3 months. Sometimes we didn't know our KPIs and how much commission would be paid until the end of the month. People are stressed, tired, and unhappy. The sales job is not easy, why would you make it even harder?! 3) Unexperienced managers, nepotism The company's leadership practices nepotism. The managers lack experience and knowledge of the product and industry. They can't help the team. 4) Fire for feedback, never listen: Leadership doesn't appreciate feedback and can fire you if you don't agree with them and speak out; constant changes in motivation and rules with no answers provided. An authoritarian work environment where obedience is expected. 5) Unequal treatment of Employees, content focus on paying less; Certain long-term employees with extensive books of business receive preferential treatment and very high bonuses. The majority of the team doesn't make money, and can't reach targets because they don't have resources. 4) NO work-life balance Work-life balance is impossible at this company for the sales team. Achieving sales targets requires working extra hours every day, even during vacations, as there are no replacements. Despite putting in long hours, there is no guarantee of reaching the sales target.

Dear Sender, Thank you for the feedback. Let us provide detailed comments regarding each point that you made: 1. Sales is currently the fastest-growing Team at Semrush and receives plenty of opportunities for research, development, and experimentation. This is possible because the leadership recognizes the value of the team. 2. Constant changes are a part of our culture and a key value of our company. We openly discuss this aspect with all employees, but we also understand that it may not be suitable for everyone. Regarding plans and KPIs, we ensure clear and timely communication with all metric updates provided quarterly. 3. The comment about nepotism is a bit surprising. We are currently in the process of building a strong leadership team for Sales, and during this process, we interview and hire people from different locations around the world. Therefore, it is just not possible or feasible to systematically hire our friends and family. 4. It is essential to differentiate between being fired for refusing to follow company/team rules and being fired for providing constructive feedback. We want to emphasize this difference — at Semrush we place high importance on not only WHAT we do, but HOW we do it, as well. The company is receptive to constructive feedback and accepts all reasonable ideas to streamline processes. 5. As for compensation, for each location we have our own compensation model based on the market, expectations, and standard of living. We are continuously developing this system and are trying to keep it as competitive as possible. 6. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is one of our top priorities as a company. Salespeople have the opportunity to take a break twice per year and reduce their workload during those periods with a quota reduction. Additionally, we are continually improving our processes to support work-life balance. With that said, we truly appreciate your feedback and advice for the leadership. We know that sometimes you need an opportunity to be heard, and believe us — we hear you. Good luck with your new endeavors! Yours, Semrush Team
