Pros

• Some talented and supportive coworkers (but many leave due to lack of advancement). • Strong industry reputation in digital marketing. • Cross-functional collaboration opportunities—if you push for them yourself.

Cons

• Constantly changing priorities & leadership turnover – Goals, KPIs, and job expectations shift frequently, making long-term success difficult. Restructuring decisions often feel rushed and poorly communicated. • Limited career growth & development – Internal promotions are rare, and leadership prioritizes external hires over growing existing employees. • Unstable compensation structure – Pay plans have changed multiple times, often reducing earnings while increasing workload. Many employees have seen their compensation decrease despite strong performance.

Dear Sender, Thank you for your review. We understand your frustration regarding the constant changes, but we also recognize that not everyone enjoys this dynamic, fast-paced environment that pushes individuals out of their comfort zones. However, this is how our company operates—our EVP is built on Change and Ownership at every step of the way. Regarding compensation—we have continuously adjusted it over the years to align with market standards and address business challenges, which, in turn, impacts workload. The current compensation reflects industry standards and has been working effectively. As for career growth—it remains our top priority. However, we also adapt it as business needs evolve. The more competitive the environment, the higher the bar. While this may not be the easiest path, those who are bold and ambitious can thrive here. That being said, we understand your concerns, but we cannot change our plans or slow down our pace of work and development. Nonetheless, we sincerely hope you find a workplace that aligns with your preferences and offers you the comfort you seek. Wishing you all the best in your future career endeavors! Yours, the Semrush Team

Micromanagement at its finest

Pros

Great colleagues and Semrush as a tool is nice.

Cons

Was stuck with a terrible micromanager who seemed to have been getting slapped in the wrists by her boss and putting all her stress on me. Semrush is a Russian company, so management works nonstop until the break of dawn to micromanage their employees. I had the worst time in my career in this role.

Pros

- When you start working here, you immediately notice the start up culture. The people are all fairly young, they hook you up with good equipment, and best of all, there is a Ping-Pong table in the Trevose office. Jokes aside, this company really has a young-tech company culture and is great for anyone trying to find an entry way in the industry and for recent college grads. - Company is rapidly growing. In the 2 years I worked here, Semrush hired many new employees, opened a Philly office, launched multiple cutting edge tools, and even went public. Semrush is definitely the top leader in SEO services and a leader in SaaS. Company Growth is definitely something you will see a lot of. It is also a fairly well known company in the industry and that might stick out to future recruiters. - The CS team is amazing. Every team will usually say that about their own but the CS team has a unique drive and culture. Everyone is supportive, helpful, friendly, and unique in their own way. The team is definitely motivated by one another because everyone works hard and as best as they can. - You will get most benefits of a start up culture here such as free snacks and coffee, individuality, holiday/company birthday parties (COVID ended these, but they may return), and more. - They really help with professional development. I learned a lot of skills here that helped me land my new role :) - Work/life balance is pretty good when you start out. The team does a great job with distributing tasks and responsibilities, so you don't get bombarded with work. It is fine if you take occasionally breaks, so long as you get your work done and numbers up.

Cons

- As I stated earlier, it is a great company to work for as entry level or recent college grad ( mostly if you go into CS). They state that their salary is competitive but it is quite disappointing, especially before your 90 day mark. There are some bonuses here and there, but you will get to a point where your experience, work, and skill level outweigh the salary. This is the negative side to the "start-up" culture at most new tech companies. You will receive many "gifts" in the mail such as company merch, gift baskets, and even alcohol. It gets tiring eventually and you start to question if the HR team invests more in unwanted gifts than in your bonuses and raises. - The company culture is not as good as it was before. Many companies are treating their employees very well and making sure everyone is happy even during this pandemic. But I sensed a lack of this after the company shifted to work-from-home basis. HR doesn't seem to be in your best interest as well. - Upward mobility can be difficult. It seemed to me that budget played a role in stunting my company growth. This made no sense to me as the company was going public.
