Pros

You'll meet amazing guys and gals among your peers. And I am incredibly grateful for that.

Cons

Reading through the list of reviews, I see how after every heartfelt one a 5 star thingy appears. And that's what prompted me to share my own experience. Cause it's is how Semrush is or was for the year I've spent there. Keeping a straight face, while collectively deciding how to handle mounting criticism or backlash in a dedicated Slack channel. There are stories from old-timers about how great the culture and the vibe were. And there's reality when old-timers are let go in one day after 8-10 years of work and dedication. They keep replying in comments that "they need to adapt for x,y,z. And that they are aimed at leading and scaling" Well, I am all for strategic decisions, which were none. It's just a mess. Multiple times you come to work for the news of a new big shiny change without any clear communication from high-ups. People got more and more frustrated. And then the fear of lay-offs with that storm has been added on top. There are mid-high managers who go around talking about greatness and unrealistic ideas of market conquering. And then there are people who work hard, trying to catch up with bloated egos and weird expectations, and then they are just thrown out. And how's that for a fact: they laid off 120 or 150 people (like 10% I guess of the workforce), including me. And the strangest part is that my direct manager was not aware of the incoming thing until it happened. How do you decide to let so many people go without even talking to those who really know what the people are doing or how they are performing? 🤷‍♂️ They just let go of those who were easier to fire cause of contracts, salaries, and other things that have nothing to do with performance (they said it themselves). AI SEO is the new priority, but they let go even those who worked on it, too. And that should tell you a lot about the company and how the things are looking there. Maybe it will change, but after a year I will not recommend it to a friend.

Pros

- great colleagues and middle management - good salaries and benefits - WFH

Cons

used to be a great place to work but about a year and a half or so most of the c-levels were replaced with corporate america-types who made constant impulsive decisions that misaligned most departments away from common goals. decisions to "cut costs" come from haste and quick-win mentality instead of prioritizing efficiency and long-term value. due to frequent layoffs, most recent being a few weeks ago, the previously collaborative and supportive environment became one of fear and uncertainty. each change would end up essentially being for nothing as any initiative would be abandoned for a new one every few weeks - frequent instability and gaps between decision and results. in the midst of all this chaos, the product feels abandoned, outdated, and deceptive.

Pros

Salaries are on a high of market in EU Great people among those who were hired while company was really growing

Cons

Disclaimer- I had to remove the previous review and re-uploaded this due to confusion with one of the ex-employees who was let go recently. I used to work in the company till end of 2024 and review below is a combination of my firsthand experience of nearly 9 years and recent actions company took. Used to be a great company with lots of growth opportunities and true culture. Now the rift between C level and the rest is enormous, they let go of the teams that worked on projects with different divisionist and no one can replace . After that management blames others in their harsh decisions because apparently no one explained the true value of aforementioned teams. The atmosphere is of fear and uncertainty, especially for those tied to their working visas, but higher management pretends that everything is great (which is not and can be proven by recent results and market reaction, just google it). Internal operations is not even a joke cause it simply doesn’t exist, every division is siloed, there is 0 to very little cooperation, everyone is trying to chase made up goals that have no real influence on results)internal or external). Move towards corporate America was their biggest mistake, as this led to a culture of praising each other and patting on the back between higher management while those who actually do the job suffered for the lack of the better word. Burnout is real, along with transparent hints on the current job market (like be grateful you still work here and don’t complain). Regardless, they will ask employees to create a bunch of fake positive reviews just to keep rating high (just check out a review from 27th of August, the day 120 people were laid off, looks genuine for sure). UPD - already deleted 😆 I’d advise to talk to anyone who’s an ex employee of the last year or so to get a real picture before joining.
