Pros

For per diem, the availability of shifts is vast. You can pick up tours from the Bronx, Brooklyn, or Long Island base.

Cons

Pay is terrible; you're sometimes overworked, with late calls even a minute before your off time, so you are technically forced to do OT. Some ambulances are really old, and the newer ones are given to those who have seniority.

4 day mandatory orientation is hard to accomodate while in school.

Pros

A good stepping stone for new EMTs. Good way to get familiar with hospitals, charting and patient assessment.

Cons

Horrible hours, you will rarely ever end on your off time. Sometimes you wont get a chance to grab food (which is just the nature of the job). Dispatch will micromanage you the entire tour.
