Too Strategic for Relationships.

Pros

There are some genuinely talented professionals and good people at Sensient that deserve better than the way they are treated. That said, the greatest positive is knowing that regardless how much Sensient petitions solely on new grads, interns, and HR for their positive reviews, and attempt to silence their critics with litigation, industry professionals are not fooled enough to come work here.

Cons

They let go their best talent without cause. They cycle through Group Presidents and CFOs—historically around 10 Presidents in as many years; with the position is vacated altogether much of the time. Management is often promoted beyond their level of competence, and several are are condescending and arrogant. Executive Management is excessively out of touch--their only value is their bottom line, and are somehow convinced the only was to succeed financially is by perpetuating their bullying, oppressive, draconian culture. They are vocally anti-relationships. The required necktie dress attire is a noose around your neck, there to remind you that the floor can drop from beneath you at any time at the Sensient gallows.

Uptight and Top Down

Pros

They are willing to pay for quality talent or what they refer to as A players. You can some times get out of there after only 9 or 10 hours a day.

Cons

Management in a publicly traded company is unbelievably nepotistic. Sensient's CEO and his predecessor-father are both ex-Navy. The company is run very much like a ship with every person reporting directly up the line with specific jobs to do. Matrix management is eschewed to the point of high level execs having to do clerical work because they don't share staff. The dress code at the corporate office is suit and tie/dress and hosiery every day. Work life balance is challenged as the demands are great on each and every employee. I worked with two other professionals and we had a bet to see who could get out first. Glad to say that I won.

Not a good place to work

Pros

There are good people there but most leave. They pay well because they have to to attract people to go there. Their products are good, but they don't focus on customers as partners, only a means to make more money.

Cons

Leadership, if you want to call it that, is by fear, intimidation and creating a stressful environment. They want employees to be "uncomfortable" when management is in the room and they still wear suits and ties and require customers and suppliers to as well if they visit. They talk about empowerment, but. It is a joke. Step out of line and you will quickly be shown the door.
