Pros

Work at Sentinel is challenging. The management in Michigan is a group of smart people who genuinely care about and respect their employees. I worked hard and had a good attitude. They made sure that I could spend time with my family, and they supported my career goals. I loved the teamwork. Before I came to work here I heard a lot of wonderful things about Sentinel. They were all true. I personally left because I wanted to be able to manage my own systems, rather than spend shorter periods in many different customer environments. I enjoyed the years I spent there though and the experience and friendships I gained there are extremely valuable to me.

Cons

Working for a VAR in a consulting type of role is challenging. People who are not willing to constantly learn new things and be independently motivated will not enjoy it. You have to know your stuff really well when you start because there’s not much OJT time. You hit the ground running! This is just the nature of the business. I saw some people come in with certs but not much field experience, and not all of them were able to make the jump from knowing enough to pass a test to knowing enough to complete a customer project.

Pros

Good Solutions Architects, engineers and sales folks.

Cons

Management supremely favors those who have been established there. High turnover for sure. When I was there, they had antiquated practices and outdated methods of sales and forecasting. HR is a joke has has no clue on many things HR would need to be privy on. Management lied when they promised to train and groom new employees only to dismiss them with no prior warning - very cavalier, unprofessional, subtle and disingenuous.

Our mission for our employees is to create a work environment that encourages creativity, fosters growth and rewards success. These are the core principles we use as a foundation to make sure we are setting up each team and every team member up for success. For our SA team, we strive to foster their growth through peer mentoring, internal training, partner trainings, certification courses, and exposure to multiple customers. We have found this combination of activities to be very effective and we are disappointed to hear your experience was so different from so many other team members in terms of fostering growth. The methods and tools used by the Sales team do not always make sense to those outside the department, but we can assure you we are using the same principles for that team to set them up for success—which includes implementing the most efficient and effective processes possible. Our employees are family which makes your “Advice to Management” particularly painful to read. We have internal paths in place to voice concerns to direct managers - along with escalation all the way up to the Senior Management/ownership team - because the opinions of our employees are so important to us. Based on your concerns, it appears these paths were underutilized and led you to feel disconnected. Thanks for your feedback. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

Pros

Working for Sentinel Technologies is fantastic. They do a fantastic job of focusing on meeting the needs and exceeding the customers expectations. We have an exceptional group of Engineers with skills across the board. The process for Selling, Designing, Planning and Implementing projects makes a significant difference in the quality and success we have. I also greatly appreciate the leadership team and the amount of interaction we have with them. I am grateful I have the opportunity to work with such a great team.

Cons

Like any business there will always be little nuances that need improving. When i first started at Sentinel, it was our internal ticketing system. There were too many manual processes involved with it. The importance here is that the leadership team heard our feedback and got to work on resolving the nuances, and continues to do so. Knowing that no matter where you go you will find things that could be improved upon, it just makes sense to work at a company that listens to your feedback and acts on it.
