Pros

Septa is the 5th largest public transit company in the US, and as such provides an invaluable service to the citizens of Philadelphia. The work is important, interesting, and varied. The employees are collaborative, friendly, and diverse. The employee benefits are extremely generous and include something that is rare these days, a pension.

Cons

Septa is a large company with approximately 8,000 employees, most of whom are decentralized in various locations throughout the 5-county Septa region. Only approximately 600 employees are located in the Center City headquarters building. This physical separation adversely affects communication between the various work groups.

If you come in as entry level engineer the only way to move from entry level to higher level position is to wait the prescribed number of years, which is 2.5 years, even if you came in with experience
