Pros
The company seems to be run pretty well. The family that founded the company still works there and they still have leading positions. During the pandemic they took great care of the employees in the corporate office. Employees at corporate got about 5 weeks off paid during the lockdown quarantine in 2020. Members of the founding family seem to be pleasant and polite. Consistent pay increases year to year (this applies to corporate, not too sure about employees in stores). Decent benefits - not super great health care (doesn't cover mental care / psychotherapy) but overall ok. Overall a stable company that takes good care of its employees. Many employees have been there a really long time and have a lot of loyalty toward the company.
Cons
Weird unwritten rules. A pretty strict dress code for men and a really relaxed dress code for women. Men have to dress in dress shirt and tie. Women can pretty much wear whatever as long as it isnt revealing. The IT dept has decent managers but not a bunch of leaders. Experienced IT workers will know what I mean when I say that. Overall pleasant attitudes from managers however there is no opportunity for growth at this company. Many have been at the company 20+ years and still have the same job title and responsibilities. Not a lot of team collaboration and dont be expected to have much say so on how a project or task should be executed. You get orders from your manager and are expected to carry them out without much regard for your knowledge or input. This company has no organization chart that is accessible to employees. Everyones exact job title is more or less a mystery. (Except of course for the people who work in your department or team.) Did I mention no opportunity for job growth? Do your best to start in a position you are comfortable keeping for 20+ years. It seems like job advancement is only for members of the founding family or for family members of the top managers. If you arent a part of those two groups dont get your hopes up. Also there is no system that allows employees (or anyone outside the organization) to see what jobs are available.
