Pros

Working from home. Training team cares about gurus Fellow gurus work hard Building your own business Helping merchants succeed.

Cons

I switched squad leads, and it went all down hill from there. I was fired within 2 months. Nothing was done to aid the situation. They lied to EI stating that they did correct me on the issue before they let me go but they never corrected me or warned me. One day I was a Guru next day I was fired. I got a great review the day before from my squad lead. It was so unexpected. They discovered a performance issue and let me go the exact same day and it was something they could have corrected. This is why I call them prentious. I was reliable and once a top performer. On the outside they pretent they are all amazing this and that, but behind closed doors they judge you without you knowing.

Pretentious

Pros

Good Perks! The potential for growth if you are good at making friends.

Cons

I find this place to be pretentious and toxic. Lots of politics and brown nosing to get anything done. This place also lacks diversity and there is no urgency to address this issue.

Shopify Response

Thank you for your post, your feedback means a lot to me. I'm really sorry to hear you haven't had a positive experience with your time at Shopify so far. I hope my response will provide insight and give you some useful next steps. First, I'd encourage you to reach out to me directly or, if you're not comfortable, the HR representative for your team (you can find them in the Vault). All of these conversations will be confidential, but if you prefer to remain anonymous, please consider using the anonymous hotline (also available on the Vault). It's really important for us to hear all of your feedback — we can't make things better if we don't know where to direct our attention. As for building an inclusive team, I understand your frustration. It's something we focus on every day and recognize it's a work in progress. Shopify is continuing to make efforts through more diverse hiring practices, more representative benefits, and internal education like unconscious bias training. If you're interested in learning more — or providing your thoughts on how we could do better — please reach out to our inclusion team on Slack. I understand how important it is to connect with a company's culture, and while I can't speak directly to what you've experienced, I'd love to hear your feedback on how we can do better. Our culture places a large emphasis on trust and individual ownership and I feel we've done a good job at keeping politics out of Shopify's culture. That said, there's always room to improve. I'm sorry you're having trouble with your lead. We promote individuals into leadership positions who have shown they can make an impact leading their team technically and professionally. Our internal leadership training, Lead Level Up, is a great effort to help our leads grow. That said, direct feedback from their team is always the best option to make sure they are continuing to do better. Again, I would love the opportunity to speak with you about your concerns and I would really encourage you to reach out to your HR business partner or your lead in the future. Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback. - Kyle, Director of UX
