Pros

Big company with lots of divisions. If you can figure out how to navigate it, offers lots of opportunities. Great benefits. Fantastic health care. Many of the policies are not well defined, so one can use them to their advantage if he/she so desires. Almost never fire people unless something is discovered in their past during background checks. Otherwise stable employment. Power industry is also forcasted to grow over the next few years, so industry as a whole is stable. Good job security. Reasonable vacation and liberal with sick time. (again this plays into the lack of formal policies). Good resume builder.

Cons

Big company. Overloaded structure and lack of flexibility to quickly respond. Not a good use of corporate strategies or sharing of inter departmental successes.

Pros

High potential for movements horizontally. I joined Siemens primarily to be able to get experience across other industries. Although after 4 yrs it has not happened, I have seen many others and I feel the right time will come. Given its continuing success, I'm also quite proud to be part of the organisation.

Cons

Get lost in the noise. It is such a large organisation, it is easy to feel lost now and then. That is to say, you feel like your impact on the organisation is so small.

Pros

It is a small company and there is room to grow. You will be challenged to make a name for yourself, but once you do you will be called on again and and again. The company is stable and if you are a technical person, then your job will be secure as long as they keep winning contracts.

Cons

They are CHEAP! Yes, they will promote you, give you praise, use you as a subject matter expert repeatedly... but when it comes to giving out raises, SGS is as stingy as they get. I've heard stories of people promoted to Program Manager positions who have been told that they will get no raise until they prove themselves! Well, why give them the promotion if they haven't already proved themselves??
