Thank you - we love the Hackathon too - it's the most fun week we have every quarter! We love seeing the product hacks that people come up with and love to see how many of them make it into the platform every quarter - the level of innovation and creativity is truly inspiring (and the karaoke is fun too!)

Pros

It’s a fast-growing startup! The work is complex and interesting, and there’s space to take ownership of features from start to finish. The design team is phenomenal and collaborative; there’s more creative support here than I’ve had at any other point in my career. The product designers are embedded into small “working pods” of engineers, so we get to work hand-in-hand with the engineers we’re building products with. Design is viewed as a core piece of the puzzle, we’re not brought in at the end to put lipstick on a pig. Our product is great, and the business is doing super well. It’s a great place to be if you’re looking to accelerate your career.

Cons

It’s a fast-growing startup. Processes are in flux and priorities can change without notice. Flexibility and speed are the keys to a successful tenure here. You’ll get autonomy in your work, but also a lot of the responsibility that comes along with it. It’s definitely not a “vest and rest” environment and at times can feel overwhelming.

We are so glad that you have found the work to be stimulating and the collaborative to us. Our approach of embedding designers into our Engineering pods is core to our design strategy. Our product is UX driven so it is crucial that design is front and center in our product development lifecycle. Thank you for your feedback - we are happy to have you on the team!

Autonomy in a Fast Paced Environment

Pros

-It's still a small startup so everyone knows each other and it's all hands on deck -Minimal red tape and lots of leeway to get things done -Supportive management and endless opportunities -Obligatory 'the people are the best part'......but it's actually true. Coming from a less than ideal former company with a lot of politics, Sigma feels like family.

Cons

It's still a small startup with a lot of irons in the fire going simultaneously. A lot of things are priorities and being able to communicate how you're investing your time on projects is up the individual. If you're looking for hand-holding and explicit tasks this may not be the environment you thrive in. But, if you're looking for a ton of autonomy with the reward owning your work and the outcomes, this is the place.

Thank you for your feedback! We completely agree that we are moving fast with a LOT going on so you are absolutely right that we are best suited to people looking for autonomy and room to learn and grow. Also - we couldn't agree more with your advice - our culture of collaboration across all functions is core to our growth right now so we are very focused in investing in ensuring that we maintain it. That's one the reasons that we are so keen to maintain an in-office presence - it's so much easier for our community to flourish when we are all together collaborating!
