Pros

Sales Assistants and Design Assistants are given opportunities to be promoted from within the company to a designer position.

Cons

Signature is a family owned and operated company but you will never meet the family that runs the company. Instead of taking the time to get to know their designers, they will simply form an opinion on you based on the amount of sales you make. Watch out for the shady pay structure. Their pay structure is presented in a way that sounds like you will be making 6 figures your first year as a designer...this is extremely false information. You will rely on the base salary the first year working at Signature and will not receive any commission until one of your sold jobs begins installation. Because of the installation lead time and horrible pay structure, it could potentially take a year to receive any commission. Once you do receive commissions, you will never be able to calculate how much you should be making due to the sketchy pay structure. When you ask for clarification on how commissions are paid, you will be told that it is not possible for you to determine how much you should be paid on a each job. Management doesn't even fully understand the pay structure. It is very sketchy and unreliable!!

Pros

You will have access to a lot of great vendors and materials to work with. They have their own shop at Lami (parent company), which is great to utilize for custom projects and fixing damaged materials. Once you start earning commission, you have potential to make a good amount of money.

Cons

You are not paid on a job until the job starts and then again when the job is complete. It could take more than a year to start seeing commission. Nothing is transparent with your paychecks. You will never know how much you will make on a job until the job is completed. When you end up making less than expected, there is no explanation for why the job lost money or where it went. Company policies are created on the fly, and they change daily without notice. The handbook is given to you when you start, but nothing in it will apply to you. The employee turnover at this company is the highest I've ever seen. A customer might get handed off to 4 designers by the time their project is completed. As a designer, you will have to get mentally prepared to be the blame for every mistake being made on a job whether it was actually on you or not. There is no work/life balance.
