Learning small bits of stuff here and there. Seeing super cool pieces come through the shop, and generally being around jewelry in a shop type environment. Dynamics with coworkers, they are all very cool and nice

Cons

Disorganization. No communication- I’m an apprentice but I shoulder a majority of the clerical work mainly because I’m female and I can do it with more ease than most people in the shop? This leads to so many issues, and I am constantly overlooked for learning opportunities because I am drowning in never ending workloads and being given almost all tasks to handle- the other apprentice does maybe 25% of the work and I am stuck with the rest as well as admin tasks my boss expects me to do as well. when people call they just ask for me- it’s a lot and I feel like I’m stuck in this role- it’s killllling my love for this job.

Nothing besides 60% off for employee discount to Jarrds, Kays and Zales

Cons

a bench jeweler apprentice at #1 shop in district. Thought it would be a good experience for someone who just graduated with a Metals degree but just ended up polishing 10 months straight. But I know others in other shops that have been there about the same time and have 5 times the amount of bench time I got. So it depends on the shop and if they prioritize quantity or teaching the apprentices.

Pay is okay, used to be trash Systems easy to use and run Good way to get into the jewelry trade with no prior experience Benefits

Cons

They will work you to the bone with no remorse. Stores always have attitude Shops keep the absolute minimum amount of tools and supplies which causes them to run out.
