Pros

Decent starting wage, best customers you'll get in retail, good employee discounts, and good training resources in diamonds and timepieces.

Cons

Very corporate -- there are a lot of structured rules that don't make sense and the company nickles and dimes its employees, viewing them as not much more than capital. Be aware of your employment status when you're hired -- if you're initially hired as "seasonal" they can get rid of you down the road by simply not putting you on the schedule without technically laying you off. Also, your sales goals are less important to your success as playing the game and being buddy-buddy with your manager -- it's all about playing along the GM's and DM's personalities.

Pros

Compensation and benefits are the best I've seen or heard of in the area. Fantastic job security. Co-workers are generally good people to be around.

Cons

Constant mandatory overtime over 5-6 months drastically reduces personal time. Policies that have been in place for 20+ years get changed with no prior notice of potential change and are announced to affected personnel last minute before being implemented. Like it or leave attitude among mid-level management. Support for career advancement and education are wonderful, as long as they do not interfere with the business.

Pros

Sterling Jewelers offers deeply discounted jewelry to its employees and a work-out room for break-time or lunch. There is some room for promotion from within. There is a profit-sharing bonus at the end of the year.

Cons

Their hourly , full-time pay is rather low, but not too bad for entry-level positions. There are few women in higher positions, for which the company was challenged in court.
