Pros

It's one of the best in a dismal field from which to choose if you need to be in NE Ohio. They do a terrific job of bringing emotion and personal connection to the customer experience. One of the finest retailers I've ever known. Exemplary customer focus. I'm proud of the company's involvement in its charitable programs. Sterling is a good corporate citizen.

Cons

Managers are fine task masters, but lack the ability to generate enthusiasm and commitment. Ironic that its business is about emotion, but middle managmeent does not or cannot make an emotional connection with the employees. It's a real disconnect from how Sterling treats its customers and what its stated core values are . This may be Sterling's greatest opportunity for improvement and achieving its goal of being a world class company. HQ departments are in silo mode, the classic us vs. them mentality. 401(k) plan is pathetic, been under review for more than a year.

Pros

Sterling provides a relaxed environment to work in. Many, but not all of the Senior Management in place respect spending time with your families. This company will afford you that opportunity. Also, I believe this company more than others has a desire to promote from within if possible. Also, if you are into Jewelry this is a good place to work because of the employee discount.

Cons

The downside of working at Sterling is that even though the company is doing very well on the profit line, those results do not always translate to the average worker. Merit increases are so low that you end up having to get raises on top to keep you at the minimum level for your position. Also the 401K program is not competitive with a 25 cent match

Pros

Sterling offers an exceptional work environment and opportunity for advancement. For someone who is truly interested in having a career and putting forth the effort to grow professionally, there are many opportunities. The benefits package is great, having recently moved to a different insurance carrier. I've seen many companies that do not offer vision, but our vision package is outstanding.

Cons

When promotions are available or positions open, it sometimes seems that management already has someone in mind. The recognition provided always seems to go to the same individuals each year, though I know they have been working to revamp that.
