Pros

* Easy job to get * Can work many hours per week * Paid server training * Convenient location * Free parking * Reduced food prices during shift

Cons

* Cult-like atmosphere where employess recite the company values at the start of each shift; I was once actually reprimanded for adding the word "very" to one of these statments in front of the other staff when reciting * Employees overworked with no breaks for snacks during a shift; certain kitchen staff worked 60+ hour weeks * Abnormal amount of side work for each shift; extra sidework during the closing shift which was 3 am. on weekends * Dirty conditions (my section had ants) which increases abuse by customers and reduces tips; management told me to "give them a meal voucher if they noticed" when I pointed out the ants in an effort to improve customer service * Constant employee turnover

Pros

silver Diner has an informal atmosphere and is a very family-oriented restaurant. The employees are encouraged to be themselves and develop ongoing relationships with the guests. The guests feel like they are in a friendly home. Long-term employment at a server is more common here than in other restaurants.

Cons

As with any waiting tables type job, you are subject to the whims of the guest. If they are having a bad day, you tend to bear the brunt of that. There is a tendency to use a blanket approach to dealing with a problem that has a specific source. Everyone has to suffer for the screw-ups of one or two persons.
