Management / culture needs some work

Pros

Company is growing and there are opportunities to gain marketable experience. Sales team is impressive and doing a great job.

Cons

Company culture needs work. It feels like there are subtle fights for recognition which undermines many employees' motivation. Employees often seem fearful of speaking up or standing out. Fairly typical hyper-competitive Ivy League-dominated culture. There's a lack of diversity as most of management / senior leadership shares a similar demographic and way of thinking which is not healthy for innovation.

Pros

Pay and benefits are solid & the people are generally nice (with some exceptions).

Cons

Leadership: While a super nice and smart person, the CEO lacks prior experience leading a company at this stage which leaves him vulnerable to the influence of strong egos that surround him. Consider the rotating cast of characters that have gone in and out of the company: The ones with the most experience left quickly. The ones who remained are largely the Yes Men who use their influence to prioritize their own personal agendas over real company progress. Regular layoffs: Leadership will continually blame the economy and never themselves while continuing to take home big salaries and investing millions in events, partnerships and product boondoggles that never actually deliver any real revenue. The product: While Simon was never a beacon of innovation among CDPs, the product has largely fallen behind its competitors. Operations: Simon struggles with both scalability and operational efficiency, with leadership primarily focused on finding the quickest path towards acquisition rather than maximizing the valuation by building a sustainable business model. This approach has resulted in a chaotic, labor-intensive work environment marred by continual strategy shifts, days filled with back-to-back Zoom calls, and processes that feel absurdly manual for a tech company.

Pros

Simon has some of the smartest and best individual contributors to work with. These are people who are friendly, kind, and are always willing to help and lend a hand.

Cons

Simon was a great place to work but that isn’t true anymore. Simon as a company has had a rocky last few years including several large rounds of layoffs, losing multiple large clients, and rebuilding the core of the product with an engineering team that is a shell of its former self. Simon’s biggest problem is ineffective leadership who are out of touch with what is happening in the day to day work and/or are unfit to be in leadership. When leadership rolls out changes (which happens often) they do such a poor job on the roll out and communication that it leaves everyone confused and frustrated. People start questioning why these changes are happening, what are the benefits, and how did they arrive at this decision. Additionally, Simon’s engineering culture has fallen apart and become a negative environment due to current leaderships consistently bad decisions. It is common knowledge amongst individual contributors across departments that engineering leadership is notoriously poor. Lastly, Simon’s short term business health is extremely uncertain and they face large challenges both internally and in a very saturated and competitive marketing tech space where there are already clear winners who are outperforming Simon. Company morale is at an all time low with no signs of improving, I would not recommend to join Simon now.
