Pros

Simple provides a great work life balance with lots of flexibility with your work schedule. People can work in office or remote. They are constantly presenting new opportunities to learn and achieve certifications to grow in your profession. Extraordinary benefits from health care plans to OKR bonuses to professional certification courses. The company is full of friendly, collaborative people who want their colleagues to succeed. I have been able to learn so much about the industry from people on my team and across other teams with years of valuable experience. Simple puts an emphasis on finding people from diverse backgrounds and cultures to help improve the company dynamic as a whole. The company is constantly trying to open up new paths to revenue, such as in the data engineering and virtual contact center spaces. The Slack platform and frequently scheduled in-person events are great places to meet and interact with people from the company. I have recommended Simple as potential job opportunity to a number of friends looking to work in the software, automation and DevOps spaces.

Cons

Simple may not be the right fit for someone looking for the normal office setting. The fact that most members of the company may leave people wishing for more in-person collaboration and face-to-face interaction, even though this has become more prevalent in the post-COVID pandemic workforce.

It's fantastic to hear about the work-life balance and flexibility offered, including the option for remote work. Your appreciation for the continuous learning opportunities, certification support, and the exceptional benefits package highlights the company's commitment to employee growth and well-being. Recognition of the company's friendly, collaborative culture and its emphasis on diversity and innovation is especially valuable. It's encouraging to know that the team's experience and knowledge have been instrumental in your learning and that STS' efforts in expanding into new areas like data engineering and virtual contact centers are noted. We also appreciate your insights on the potential drawbacks of our flexible work environment, particularly for those who might prefer a more traditional office setting and face-to-face interactions. This feedback is crucial as we strive to balance remote work benefits with the need for in-person collaboration in a post-COVID era. Your recommendation to friends and peers speaks volumes, and we are grateful for your positive view of our company. Thank you for sharing your experiences and thoughts with both potential employees and us.

Pros

Professional development; Unlimited PTO; talented work force; amazing coworkers; competitive salary for engineers, mostly.

Cons

The finish line is often moved; the benefits that brought me in are eroding; leadership doesn't have a true pulse of the people and culture, nor do they care to hear otherwise; interdepartmental collaboration is pain point.

First and foremost I want to sincerely thank you for taking the time out to provide feedback. It conveys that you care enough and hold out hope that we can “get it right.” To your point about “leadership not having a true pulse of the people and culture”, this feedback puts a point on improvements that me and the rest of the leadership team must buckle down and focus on. I will say since founding the company, one of my core principles has been to create the company and culture that “I” would want and be proud to work for. Having worked for some crummy companies in my past, my highest ambition has been to build a firm that both delighted our customers and took care of its people. So I intend to redouble my efforts to earn back your recommendation and confidence. Admittedly, our fast growth has in many ways stressed our ability to keep up on all fronts. But no excuses. As to the “benefits erosion”, there have been changes but not sure about diminishment of benefits overall. But in 2023 we’ve done extensive benchmarking against similarly situated firms in our industry as we’ve been evaluating whether we move from our PEO to bringing our benefits “in-house.” So yes, there could be changes taking place in 2024, but I would suggest that we’d still offer a comparatively rich set of benefits. Thanks again, Adrian Rich CEO

Lots of room for improvement as the company is still growing.

Pros

Great competitive benefits. Company events are fun. Handful of people who work here are wonderful individuals. Ability to learn new skill sets based off the many hats that you will wear.

Cons

Some individuals contribute to a negative work environment and nothing is done about it. Back office team members are not given same level of respect or kindness that is shown to team members on contracts. Underpaid for responsibilities of role.

Iron sharpens iron. I will commit to you that your feedback will be front and center in making some course corrections in 2024. I’ve seen a number of bits of feedback citing the delta in focus on how our engineers & billable personnel are handled versus how members of overhead/backoffice teams may feel. And I will say that since our founding, we’ve deliberately designed our culture to focus on “loving up” and providing servant leadership to the people on the front-lines--the people delighting our customers and generating our revenue. I personally worked for companies where the people in the “ivory tower” @ “corporate” neglected the forward deployed teams and literally created impediments to their delivery of value for our clients. So we intentionally sought to create the opposite dynamic at STS. But if I’ve over-corrected for that dynamic, then I will refocus on a course correction that seeks to bring things back into a better balance--but can’t promise that our overall priorities will change. A priority and focus on our forward deployed personnel is in our DNA and support roles are servant leaders providing “support.” To your point about our growing pains though, we’ve grown pretty aggressively [like to the 40+ new people over 2023 til Jan of 2024…which is a lot for us!]. We are in the business of people and admittedly our systems/operations have struggled to integrate all of those people. But for you to not to feel kindness and respected along the way, that is unacceptable. No excuses… your feedback is just what we need to buckle down and tackle. Thanks again for your feedback. Leaving feedback means that you believe that we can do better. And we’re up for that challenge. Adrian Rich CEO www.linkedin.com/in/adrianrich
