Pros

- Air travel not required - Daily commutes will vary based on local models. - Nice people - Everyone I have met is truly a nice and respectful person.

Cons

- Staff augmentation - They place people into roles versus sell projects and deploy project teams. All "projects" I have seen have been staffing work. - Lack of transparency regarding type of work during hiring process - That's the nice way of saying they were not forthright with the type of work in the pipeline. - Work does not align with interests or skill sets - Again, they are placing people into slots that a client or another consulting firm needs filled. There is little information regarding how you can align yourself with suitable work. - Employees with highly variable skill sets and levels of competency are all branded as "consultant". This seems to reinforce the staffing model.

This is John Tobin. I totally agree that we should always be upfront during our recruiting / hiring process. My hope would be that you are sharing your dissatisfaction with the type of work / project you are on with your people manager. Many of our markets have rolled out a "Meaningful Work" indicator which we are using to get a pulse from our consultants on the project they are assigned to. You can also schedule a time with me to further discuss what you are seeing - simply email me at johnt@slalom.com. Pros

-There are many nice, friendly helpful people. -Some interesting projects -Ample opportunities to learn new technology stacks. -Big elaborate parties, retreats, and happy hours -Do value feedback from both employees and clients -Managers will try to tailor projects to your interests once they learn them -Willing to pay for conferences and classes -Good work-life balance

Cons

-Performance bonuses are sold by recruiters as basically guaranteed to be around 9%. This is definitely not a guarantee and many bonuses are low. -Recruiters say the low base salary is worth it because of the performance bonus and the work is meaningful. -Apparently, meaningful work means having a high chance of doing grunt work for large corporations. -The 401k matching is very low and does not start until one year of employment. -PTO is starting to increase but sick days are wrapped into PTO. -The kool-aid is very heavily spiked. The company talks about how they're going to change the world and how they're revolutionary when many projects are long and dull. -Cliques -Not much support when first starting off and waiting for a new project. -Managers are often stretched thin and hard to find time with. -A lot of room for stagnation of skills -Very linear career trajectory -Pay is well below average for a software engineer.

This is John Tobin. I would encourage you to set up a meeting with me - as it should be easy to connect with you being in Seattle. Simply send me an email - johnt@slalom.com, to set something up. We look at the market constantly to make sure we remain competitive and I agree that Seattle is a hot market for great engineering talent. I hope you contact me to discuss further. John T

Pros

I agree the people in the office are really nice. The senior management is great. The colleagues are nice. Some of the projects are interesting. They encourage to upskill and will support you. But it ends there

Cons

I do not know where to begin. It honestly baffles me when i receive the emails about all these awards Slalom have won like Best Place to Work, great work life balance etc. But it makes no sense to me because our holiday and PTO plan does not even meet industry standards. How can a company still make their employees accrue PTO? Where is the flat PTO plan where we can plan it accordingly? Lastly, it is shocking that our well earned PTO then impacts utilization which if you do not meet the 70% impacts your Bonus. The federal holidays are a joke. We do not get MLK, President’s Day, no Juneteenth, No Indigenous day. They literally compensate by giving 2 floating holidays. Our health plan is one of the worst. Yes we can get a lot of options but all the options are expensive and the company does not pay enough credit to match it. Our 401k match is weak. Promotion process is the most difficult I have ever seen. When I opted to join Slalom I was informed by the recruiter that with good performance you can get promoted. But to get to a Principal level, one has to be exceptional at delivery excellence, one has to write proposals and sell, generate revenue, be a good people leader, be known for a product. It doesn’t end here. It is so rigid that it is next to possible. Even worse is that after you truly prove yourself to be Principal. The raise is a joke. Salary raise year to year is hardly 4 percent well bellow the current inflation rates. With the recent layoffs ( first time apparently), the confidence in the organization has taken a big shock. The leadership really needs to review the culture. Instead of talk the talk, walk the walk. Because you say you are a fun organization but you do not even spend enough on the well being of employees. Its all a lie. And a FACADE
