Employees beware - not what it used to be

Pros

Great co-workers that I will miss dearly and decent work-life balance. I was able to negotiate a decent salary when I started. Used to be an enjoyable place to work, but from what I've seen and heard, things have changed immeasurably.

Cons

No longer what it used to be. Poor leadership over the last few years as market conditions have deteriorated, and Slalom has not found a way to differentiate themselves or bring additional value while still trying to charge a premium price. Merit increases and bonuses have been non-existent for years, and lagging behind industry. Used to stand by their motto of "fiercely human", but market conditions have led to a ton of anxiety around layoffs (multiple rounds, and there have been quiet rolling layoffs for team members). Speaking only for my own manager and practice leader, but witnessed clear favoritism across the team, and inconsistent application of policies across team members. For example, there is a Slalom-wide 12-week bench policy where employees can be let go if on the bench for 12 weeks which creates a ton of anxiety, but it's inconsistently applied. There is an additional policy where people are not being given their 2 week notice period if they are not staffed, and are being let go on the day they give their 2 week notice. This was applied to to me, but not to others on the team giving notice at the same time. 2 week notice has never been owed, but always felt like a common courtesy. Really unfortunate way to leave. Overall there were positive experiences, but unfortunately things seemed to take a turn for the worse at the end. How a company treats you at the end feels like a good indication of character, and feels like they dropped the ball here. Would not go back.

Pros

The only positive thing I can say about Slalom is the free snacks in the office, though ironically, hardly anyone goes in anymore because morale has hit rock bottom under poor leadership and a total lack of vision.

Cons

My advice: if you value clear direction, professional respect, competitive pay, and your evenings and weekends, look elsewhere. The free crisps aren’t worth it. If you dare to voice valid criticism, expect whispered gossip or outright personal attacks; the culture punishes honesty and rewards blind loyalty. Promotions, if they materialise at all, mean little, your compensation will still lag embarrassingly behind market rates. Meaningful work is rare; more often, you are paraded in front of clients as an ‘expert’, then left scrambling nights and weekends to deliver on poorly scoped promises the engagement leader failed to clarify. Most disturbingly, the internal culture resembles a cult of personality, employees worship senior leadership without question, fostering an environment where groupthink and sycophancy trump genuine collaboration or innovation.
