Pros

Thoughtful & thorough onboarding, authentic leadership, commitment to inclusion & diversity. I asked uncomfortable questions about equity and culture in my interview. To my recruiter's credit, I was connected with a senior leader outside my hiring management and they addressed every question with transparency. Not perfect but working to be better. Small company that punches above its weight class.

Cons

Still a lot of white guys leading tech while women are a little better represented in infosec & compliance roles. Some growing pains but it's a nice problem to have.

Thank you for the recommendation! We love to hear all this good stuff so we can keep on doing it! At Smarsh, we want to drive change in our industry to be more diverse, equitable and inclusive, and we believe that should be reflected in our company's values, decisions and team. We have an employee created and led Inclusion Advisory Council (IAC), that has executive sponsorship and seeks to address ideas and themes for increasing inclusivity, equity and diversity at Smarsh. As you noted, we have increased our gender diversity in leadership, not only through hiring but also through internal promotions. We have much work to do, and the energy behind us to make progress

A once great Portland employer

Pros

Lots of very current tech here, if you're looking to stay current with your skills it could be good experience-wise.

Cons

Culture has degraded over time. It's now all about money. Portland vibe is gone, this is your standard American corporation, bureaucracy and hierarchy above all else. Private equity runs it behind the scenes, so most everything is a facade to service rich people from LA. M&A a big part of their current growth strategy, if you like Machiavellian intrigue you'd be a good fit. While it was a good work experience, the work culture experience had degraded. Upper management and I no longer shared a mutual ethos. Sad to have watched it happen, as it was once enjoyable.

Smarsh has had tremendous growth and success over the past several years and we know your work contributed to that success, thank you! We do value innovation; your compliment on leveraging new tech resonates with us. At Smarsh, we take our core values (People First, Inspire Confidence, Embrace the Impossible) to heart and they guide our actions, big and small. What has changed in the past few years in going from 200 to 900 employees is how we see our core values manifest in day to day operations, because with that growth requires scale throughout the organization. Our private equity investors help us grow - both through organic and through inorganic (M and A) growth, and while we respect and appreciate your feedback we respectfully disagree with the assessment we use Machiavellian tactics. But we do value differing opinions and the right to speak them freely. Most importantly, thank you for sharing feedback and for all the contributions you have made at Smarsh during your tenure.
