Pros

Catered lunch when we were in the office. Food stipend when we became remote. Coworkers are generally nice.

Cons

This company is an absolute joke and likely the worst place I’ve worked in my entire career. If you’re considering a sales job here, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. The company is a complete dumpster fire. The sales team is overworked, underpaid, micromanaged, and insufficiently trained. When you start, they hand you a playbook with scripts and provide less than a week of "training." After that, you're thrown onto the floor to cold-call financial advisors 80 times a day, trying to sell them on a lead generation program. The leads are a joke—recycled from the recently departed Account Executives who didn’t even last three months. These financial advisors are so inundated with calls from SmartAsset that most of them simply hang up the moment they hear who you are. The sales team experiences such high turnover that calling it a "revolving door" doesn’t do it justice—it’s more like a floodgate. People are stressed, unhappy, and simply counting down the days until they can leave. The culture is toxic, morale is non-existent, and management seems oblivious or indifferent. If you value your sanity, steer clear of this place.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. While we're sorry to hear that your experience at SmartAsset was not a positive one, we want to acknowledge that our company, sales organization, and leadership have evolved significantly since the time you were with us. Since I joined the organization in 2023, I’ve made it a priority to enhance training to be a full month long, improve lead quality, and overall team support. We’ve rolled out significant improvements to our onboarding and development programs, and we continue to focus on providing structured coaching, ongoing mentorship, and the tools needed to succeed. Sales is always a challenging and competitive field, and we recognize that it's not the right fit for everyone. That said, we are committed to creating an environment where Account Executives feel equipped, valued, and supported in their roles. If you have any additional insights you'd like to share, we encourage you to reach out to us at peopleops@smartasset.com. Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors! - Britt Pennington, Senior Director of Sales

Pros

The only good thing about smart asset was it was remote work.

Cons

The only positive aspect of working here is that it’s remote—everything else is a complete drain. If you’re considering joining, beware: this company will wreak havoc on your mental health. Leadership only cares about top performers, giving them all the leads while everyone else struggles and resorts to stealing deals. As an AE, this was the worst place I ever wasted my time on. The culture fosters competition in the worst way, with managers forcing you to split deals with senior AEs, taking half of your deal value. Morning huddles are mandatory and a total waste of time. Instead of productive discussions, the conversation often devolves into inappropriate topics that shouldn’t be tolerated in a workplace (sex, race, personal life). To make matters worse, the company backs up salespeople who haven’t hit quota in months. It’s no surprise that the sales organization hasn’t hit 100% for the past two years—that’s a huge red flag.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are committed to fostering a positive and fair work environment for all employees, and we take concerns like these seriously. We want every Account Executive to feel supported, which is why we have structured mentorship and development programs to help new hires ramp up successfully. While we do reward performance, we also ensure new AEs have access to training, guidance, and opportunities to succeed. If there are concerns about fairness in lead distribution or deal structure, we encourage employees to raise them with leadership or People Ops so we can address them. Additionally, professional workplace behavior is a core expectation at SmartAsset. Any inappropriate discussions or behaviors in meetings are not tolerated, and we urge employees to report any issues so they can be properly addressed. We appreciate your perspective and would welcome the opportunity to learn more about your experience. If you're open to sharing, please reach out to us at peopleops@smartasset.com so they can connect us. - Britt Pennington, Senior Director of Sales

Pros

Good, friendly, and skilled people in the base ranks. Managers are accessible and helpful. Great transparency of the business model metrics/KPIs and finances (most of the time).

Cons

Tech stack in woeful need of upgrades and patches and is only one security incident away from total company collapse. Flow of communication from upper management breaks hard from C levels to VP/Director with outright silence, delaying, and doublespeak. Flow up the chain either never makes it or is ignored. Obsessive focus on short term revenue. Planning is always late and survives for one or two months before CEO changes course again, due to lack of vision. HR blames process for failure to address concerns then blows off the process in what appears to be a hope that the concerns will fade away.
