Pros

SmartAsset is a performance-driven sales organization where results matter. I joined as a Sales Executive in 2022 and, over nearly four years, progressed through AE, Senior AE, and into Sales Director by staying focused on revenue-producing activity.... NOT optics or entitlement. There is real upside for people who take ownership, seek feedback, and continuously refine their approach. High performers earn more responsibility, more trust, and more opportunity because they’ve proven they can deliver. Period. This is a place where growth is real if you treat sales like a craft and hold yourself accountable for outcomes.

Cons

People who confuse being busy with producing revenue, or who expect guarantees instead of accountability, will struggle. The standards are high and the feedback is direct. Some interpret structure and expectations as micromanagement rather than clarity. If you’re uncomfortable being measured by results or adapting when things aren’t working, this will feel challenging.

Pros

As a data scientist at Smartasset, I have been particularly happy with the extent to which data drives the decisions that we make. When I was interviewing for my role here it immediately became clear that this would be a great place for someone with a scientific mindset, and in the years since this has only been reinforced. Leadership as a whole is extremely data-driven in their decision making, and I find that people that are able to present clear and convincing evidence behind their thinking do well. Everyone on the data team works extremely hard to build and maintain credibility, and team leadership emphasizes alignment with company goals. If I need to bounce an idea off someone or brainstorm, there is a long list of people in the company that I know I will be able to have a productive conversation with. This environment has allowed me to develop both my hard and soft skills and also gives me confidence in developing creative solutions to difficult and nuanced problems. Overall, I have found that strong work is appreciated and tangibly rewarded, and I have personally been promoted as a result of success on important projects. Being fully remote is definitely nice, and I believe that the company as a whole understands that this is contributing to our success. There have been weeks where I have had to work long hours, but I have always understood why the situation called for that in those cases. I have faced no friction when I have to duck out for doctor appointments or my child gets sent home sick. If I mention that I'm going to finish something over the weekend, that is discouraged in most cases. Overall, work-life balance is very reasonable.

Cons

The fact that my work has consequences definitely adds pressure to my job. Team members are given a lot of autonomy, which also comes with a lot of responsibility. It can be a difficult environment for people without a lot of agency or the ability/desire to critically evaluate their own work.

1. Some technical debt and legacy systems to work around 2. Product team members are smart people, but the company could benefit hugely from formal product management training
