Pros

Working at SG, you will have the benefit of working on quality projects. The office has an excellent reputation and wins a lot of work, making it a more stable work environment than many other offices. They are also reasonable when it comes to PTO and extreme hours, which is uncommon in this industry (nights and weekend work is only occasionally required). They also work a 42.5 hour week and provide about 12 Fridays off each year.

Cons

Path to leadership and career advancement can be ambiguous and frustrating. The level of design is typically very good, but not exceptional. Compensation is below average.

Pros

Everyone else in town is looking for SmithGroup caliber employees. Cutting edge design philosophy without being on the bleeding edge After 12 years, an SG culture has emerged from the KCF and Tobey/Davis merger A new office that is not afraid to practice what it preaches along with learning from it's failures. The DC is well diversified with successful work in multiple sectors

Cons

The walls need to come down between studios. Staff should be allowed to move freely between studios without fear of burning bridges. Studios should share more and compete less.
