Pros

- Working for the Smithsonian - The work is interesting

Cons

- No pay or low pay - Toxic, manipulative, gossip-driven work environment - Middle management cliques and bullying of lower staff members galore - HR is part of the problem - Environment is so competitive, colleagues throw each other under the bus and play the blame game on a daily basis. - Blatant racism

Pros

Amazing collections (artifacts). Interesting projects. Good pay for an in-house museum exhibit designer. It's hard to find a non-profit museum position that pays the bills.

Cons

Stifling bureaucracy. Dysfunction across the Institution. Less creative freedom.
