Pros

As a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) at Soar Autism Center, my experience has been both rewarding and challenging, offering significant professional growth and the opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of children with autism. Below is an overview of my experience in this role. *Supportive Team Environment: From day one, I was welcomed into a team of dedicated and passionate professionals. The center provides a collaborative environment where staff, including BCBAs (Board-Certified Behavior Analysts) and other RBTs, regularly communicate and share strategies to improve client care. This has been essential in helping me develop my skills and feel supported in my work. *Comprehensive Training: The training program was thorough, equipping me with the knowledge and tools necessary to apply Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques effectively. Ongoing supervision and feedback from BCBAs have been invaluable in refining my skills and gaining confidence in my work with clients. *Direct Impact on Clients' Lives: One of the most fulfilling aspects of being an RBT is seeing the progress of the children and adults I work with. Every small achievement—whether it’s learning a new skill, improving communication, or reducing challenging behaviors—feels like a victory. It’s truly rewarding to be part of their journey and to witness their growth. *Opportunities for Career Advancement: The center offers opportunities for career growth, whether through continued education or taking on more responsibilities within the organization. I feel encouraged to pursue and expand my expertise in the field of ABA. *Work-Life Balance: The schedule is generally flexible, and while there are busy times, the work-life balance is reasonable. There’s an understanding that employees need time for personal commitments, which helps to prevent burnout. *The company does several surveys and asks for our opinions. I have seen them make positive changes by listening to employees. I do not feel like I would get in trouble for voicing my opinion with the owners.

Cons

Emotional and Physical Demands: The work can be emotionally taxing, as it requires patience, empathy, and the ability to handle challenging behaviors on a daily basis. Some days can feel particularly draining, especially when working with children who may have severe or unpredictable behaviors. It requires a lot of resilience and a positive mindset. *This is a newer company, and they are still working some things out, but since I have started, I have seen the owners implement suggestions from staff.
