      Rote work; Decent pay

      Compensation is decent for public sector job Nice work-life balance Overtime occasionally available

      Cons

      Career advancement is virtually non-existent. For example, promotions are few and far between. SSA-ODAR says that it is not a "numbers' organization, but it is. Promotions are based on high producers, which are normally people cranking out 4-5 cases a today without any real substantive analysis. Detail opportunities are also reserved for a "chosen" few. I would say that the analyst job is great for someone who has no aspirations of career advancement and enjoys rote work.

      Pros

      The people! They have great people who are always willing to help you out on problems. Management also if very understanding of emergency situations and help you balance work priorities with personal ones as well.

      Cons

      Tedious work - very redundant. Constant budget issues and freezes on hiring, overtime, etc.

      Pros

      Make good money considering most people in the Agency does not have advance degrees. There are so many programs, policies and procedures to learn, you will never get bored of the job. Get to help seniors and disabled people who are in need.

      Cons

      Management at times favors seniority instead of performance. Also, management is not open to change.
