Pros

-There was a golden period of a couple years where the loans flowed in like water and only the best candidates were hired. The quality of workmanship and general good-willed personality still persists in the local company culture (though no longer in every single crew and warehouse as it used to be). -Great people continue to be hired. Everyone is a friend. -Strong and mostly reasonable emphasis on safety -When sales are slow in one area of the country, management often springs for air fare, hotel stay and truck rental to temporarily relocate crews to other states. There are layoffs, but some effort is made to avoid it. -Decent, inexpensive benefits

Cons

-Everything is driven by production (a.k.a. "KW"- roughly equivalent to how many kilowatts a site will produce once installed). Installation crew members are paid based on how many modules the crew can install on a given job (a number linked to the KW of a job). This commission can more than double a crew member's pay. Slowing down to revisit jobs tagged for poor quality workmanship means receiving "just your base pay" for that day. Thus, crews, more often than not being absolutely addicted to their commission, are very unwilling to take time to learn from their mistakes. As monthly KW is the primary measure of a warehouse, managers are unwilling to slow new installations to discipline crews. -An all-consuming job with 50+ hours expected of most employees regardless of role. Family life takes a definite back seat.

Pros

The company is innovative and is providing a beneficial product. The executive management team is comprised of very intelligent people.

Cons

They do not offer raises based on merit. The only way to make more money is to get promoted, which is unfortunate for they fantastic individual contributors who do not want a management role. They do not advance good people into director roles, but instead hire from outside of the company. Promotions are based on favoritism rather than hard work, reliability and intelligence. Management allows inappropriate behavior with their favorites. Managers come and go as they please, and are not held accountable for their work (or lack thereof). As long as they dial in for a conference call, it appears that they are working. There is no accountability for management in this department. Those promoted to manager roles are not equipped for the job; they lack maturity, training, and experience to lead a large group. Because of poor management, they hire very immature people who do not understand what a professional work environment is. There is way too much drama that is encouraged by management. Great employees get taken advantage of, become burnt out and wind up leaving.

Pros

The vision, innovation and policy that SolarCity creates is unmatched. It is a perfect trifecta of helping the planet, assisting people with their lives, and earning a living for myself. The transparency from leadership and pressure for quality customer service is what underlies everything. Awesome place to work.

Cons

Pay is not as high as our competitors. Public perception is not always supportive.
