Pros

Amazing vision and purpose - the whole message of SolarCity is to change the world and make this planet better then how we found it. The people that work for the company believe in this message and work towards everyday. I have never met such hardworking people then the Sales and Operations employees at SolarCity - they truly believe in what we do! Also, our Co-Founders are very transparent with how the company is doing, what new products are coming out and how our sales teams are doing. We promote from within and reward hard work - as well, at least in HR/Recruiting - work/life balance is attainable and encouraged.

Cons

This year has been hard on SolarCity, so unfortunately there are many "cons" to working at this company of late: -No snacks or free meals (you have to pay for high priced snacks or so-called healthy meals at HQ San Mateo) - Growth opportunities have completely stalled in certain departments - so being in my current role for over a year is a little discouraging to know I won't be able to move into another role anytime soon. - Pay is horrible for the Bay Area - the cost of living is SO high here and our wages do NOT reflect that, our poor Sales people are paid the same amount as someone in Arizona or Texas, where the cost of living is significantly less. - The culture has declined over the last couple of months due to the major layoffs that took place of recent. It really isn't that fun to come into the office anymore knowing most of my co-workers got let go.

Pros

The company's mission is a wonderful one.

Cons

The management teams at Las Vegas HQ do not practice the company's values, but they sure will preach them. Employees with no previous management experience are promoted to supervisor positions and haven't a clue what they are doing. Most are recent college graduates with little to no work experience, and they behave like high school children. The departments are so disorganized it's almost hard to believe. Departments are often butting heads due to severe miscommunication on all accounts. The employee turnover rate is shocking. The customer cancellation rate is even more shocking. Specialized training is not given by management. New hires are clueless until mistakes are made- that is where the learning begins. You are encouraged to write a review on Glassdoor straight out of recruiter training, once they've exaggerated the perks, and before you've actually worked on the floor with your team. You are encouraged to offer better solutions and speak openly when you experience dissatisfaction, yet once you do, you are a target. If you do not stay under the radar, no matter how smart you are or how efficient your work is, you will be blacklisted. You will never be considered for growth opportunities. Management does not admit if they are the cause of a problem, so the blame is turned on to the staff. You will not be happy here. The pay rate is very low for the little guys, and absolutely not worth the stress. Job titles and responsibilities change but the salary does not advance. It is a shame that all of this seems to only be getting worse, and I doubt that the executives care. It's all about the stocks at this point. Constant change should be a good thing, but nothing here is progressing or productive. I feel terrible for our customers because the product is great; the employees are hopeless.
