Pros

Not a one! This company doesn't know if they are coming or going. From the top down they tell you to not tell customers everything. They don't train you worth a crap. Throw you out and when customers have questions your manager ( which changes almost monthly) says- call me when you are in the customers house. Oh that really would make a customer feel comfortable! Solar is the way to go- but customers will figure it out if they call anyone else- SolarCity stinks!!!

Cons

Everything! Pay is terrible! You work 7 days a week and do the math, you make $7.00 an hour for the hours you put in. They call you to meetings every other day, all over the county. You have a cancel with customers at the last minute! And the Home Depot appointment setters are a joke! They hunt down people in the store. They book appointments with customers that have zero interest, then when you head out to your appointment at 8pm in the woods you get the door slammed in your face. What a joke!!!

Pros

Company car, decent benefits, decide your own schedule (flexibility) paid vacation & sick leave

Cons

NOT any matching 401k at all! Constant changes that are annoying because 1 day you can and the next day you cannot type of changes, terrible leads, lack of leads, unfair distribution of leads, no more team attitude.....you are pretty much alone....... The BIGGEST and most genius thing SolarCity offers is the carrot dangling in front of you to bring on other sales reps in which they reward you by giving you stocks for every sale they install. It IS real, but takes about 1 - 1 1/2 years minimum to get ANY money. Once you get shares released to you, you set up a Merryl Lynch account and then have to wait an additional 6 months for the stocks to mature! You cannot touch them until the 6 months is over at which time you will then pay over 40% in taxes! A complete huge disappointment as most people won't last a year in this position. There's a ton of turn around, and now I understand why! As a FEC (Field Energy Consultant aka. Outside sales rep) you now must not only compete against the completion out there but your own company! They have and inside sales team, a door to door team and the Sacramento teams are coming to the Brentwood area and selling deals constantly and nothing is done. So nice to compete with your very own company! Absolutely ridiculous! 2 years ago this was such a fun job to have. There was a team attitude, a real fun and positive atmosphere and it was exciting to work for SolarCity! Today in 2015, the company does a complete 180 and tries to convince everyone that creating your own leads and going 100% "self generated" is the way to go. It is NOT! Going from 1 of SC top performers to now barely making it, these last 6 months have completely drained me and sucked all the joy of this job out of me. I am sad to leave as I really did love this position for over a year and a half now but the Jim Jones kool aid they keep trying to sell us is a bunch of bull and I believe there is going to be a huge Exodus of really good and talented sales reps leaving SC in the next 6 months. So sad when a company grows to big, too fast and allows this to happen. We have all become just statistics and numbers now. This company is obsessed with statistics, and it has become their greatest downfall as the numbers are sometimes not what they seem and they concentrate on statictics that have no bearing in the end game and overlook a lot of the problems. Pros

Don't be fooled by the review title. If you think that's 100% good thing, you're mistaken. This company has a very very very easy sales process. They've dumbed it down to the point that a caveman could do it Standard pricing for everyone, zero lateral or vertical maneuverability allowed from the sales reps which completely removes all room for error EXCEPT for system design. If you can live inside a LOCKED ecosystem, for which only certain customers fit the SolarCity mold, then this company is for you! Their name and brand recognition is top of the line and people already trust it. They're technology is far and away better than most companies have today. So easy to sign people up and get the project booked.

Cons

I could go on for days about the cons. Again the title of this review is The "Apple Inc" of the Solar industry. Most of you know just how bad Apple really is. You didn't drink the kool-aid and buy into the flashy marketing for devices that have 10 year old features that have been available to everyone on the only suitable platform, Android. Solar is the same. There are so many options out there for employment in this industry that SolarCity has forgotten one important thing, Pay your reps money. Not peanuts. Hire LOCAL people that think for themselves to work with the utility companies and stop reading from a script. SolarCity is THE SLOWEST company in California to install job. The Slowest. it's absurd. They're is also speculation that they're capping their sales reps at around 6 installs a month because of how much money the company is losing to operate each day. Bottom line, if you're 20-25 years old. this is a great 1st start, but you DO NOT want to stay long, Get in, learn solar , learn how they do it, and then find a company that pays real money for install. Hint: it's triple what SolarCity pays for same size systems. Not to mention you'll have 100% more control over your deals if you're smarter than a 5th grader. There is so much to learn in this industry to give customers what they want. SolarCity has no plans to operate outside their little bubble of they claim are qualified jobs. Which is very unfortunate for thousands of blindly loyal followers and employees of this company.
