Pros

SolarCity is growing at a ridiculous pace, there is so much opportunity to grow within the company and your hard work will be rewarded. Not only are you doing something you can be proud of every day when you leave, you are also investing your time into something that will pay off personally. This is a Career that never feels like a dead end job. You have to have the right work ethic though. The people that come to work for SolarCity that don't seem to make it, are also the people that treat this job with a careless carefree attitude. You can't just skate here, the company wants you to grow with it, and they expect everyone here to treat it like their own business. There is nothing wrong with that. Office Culture is great! Come in, do some work and have some fun while your at it. One of my favorite things with this company is the team aspect... what I mean by this is, your ideas go a long way, and they want to hear them.

Cons

There is a lot of change, and no change comes without a learning curve. Sometimes it feels like the company is making decisions without actually consulting with its front line. I will admit though, when they see that something isn't working the way they expected they are the first to say "that isn't working, and sorry." I would rather work with a company that has growing pains like this, than a company that is stale, and doesn't seem to care about it's employees. Comp will come. This isn't a get rich quick scheme and you have to understand this coming into the position.

Pros

The best reason to work here was to understand why it was so important to leave that culture as soon as possible.

Cons

Upper management holds contests for employees to post positive reviews to Glassdoor in exchange for the opportunity to win a prize (i.e. iPad). Why else do you think you see so many positive reviews? This is the worst company I've ever worked for. Departments are created and then disbanded frequently. There is no company-wide communication, so it's difficult to know what procedures have been changed overnight (literally). Customer service is awful, in part because the employees are left in the dark about what's going on. How are they supposed to then help a customer? They can't. Lay offs are common, especially to push out employees that are individual thinkers. SolarCity is more like a cult than anything else. If you show signs that you don't 100% buy into the cult mentality, they will find a way to get rid of you. Upper management is a good old boys club and they love to waste money - unnecessary travel, lavish dinners, leasing Teslas for their favorite employees, etc. There's no stability, no sense of employee worth, and a culture of "do what I say, not what I do". In 2 years, my supervisor changed 8 times and my position was changed 6 times. This company make it very clear what I will not tolerate from an employer. I'm a successful and ethical employee, not a piece of garbage. The biggest take away from my review - Do not work here. It may sound attractive, but it's just to rope you in and then it all changes once you're officially an employee.
