Pros
Having worked for sdg for over three years I have a bit more of a detailed review of what it's like to work at sdg: The ops (management) team puts in a ton of effort to make the consultants feel valued and happy. They hold many different meetings and parties throughout the year for the consultants which always have lots of yummy food and drinks. The resource managers (a consultants first point of contact) make every effort to ensure that you are setup for success and they will meet with you every month or so to catch up and see how things are going and you can voice any concerns with them or just catch up and have coffee or lunch. The other sdg consultants are some of the brightest people I have ever worked with. Lots of these people are google-caliber developers and everyone is always happy help one another. The consultants are all very engaged and truly rockstars. The ESOP is a cool program where you can get extra money thrown towards your retirement. As an ESOP everyone is invested and wants the company to do well. The perks are really good - they have everything from cabins for the employee's to the yearly Saints game where you can bring your family (kids included!) for a fun evening with lots of food and snacks at a baseball game. Consulting is a great way to get tons of exposure, make many connections, and learn a wealth of information very quickly. TLDR - sdg goes above and beyond to ensure that the clients have an exceptional customer experience, and the employee's have an exceptional employee experience.
Cons
Three years in and the complaints I have are few and fairly minor... If a client doesn't provide you with a computer setup then sdg will provide you with one... The equipment sdg provides is pretty much garbage (think laptops with 4gb of RAM, i5, no SSD). These setups would be ok for an average consumer, but this is a tech firm so you would think they would provide a little better equipment for consultants running programs that require a lot of horsepower. I do believe that if I were to ask them for a machine with more juice that they would give me something better, but this should just be the standard. The holiday schedule could be improved as there is currently a "forced" PTO program. They have days (Christmas Eve for example) where the office is closed and you either have to bill out at your client for 8 hours if your client is open, OR you are forced to use 8 hours of PTO that day. There are three or four of these days a year so basically you can expect to subtract those days from whatever PTO you are allotted. There are 5 actual holidays that you get off without having to use PTO. It would be nice if you didn't have to use PTO for these other 3-4 days. There is no 401k match. It's an ESOP so it offsets that a little bit, but it's tough to tell whether or not it will be better or worse than a 401k match. You may get thrown on some old technology. sdg tries not to deal with any old or outdated technologies, but there are instances where it's unavoidable. I have a strong emphasis on may because you may also get thrown on cutting edge technology. You have to be ok with whatever. You don't really have any opportunity to move up or down the ladder - if you want to eventually get into a management role or something like that it probably won't happen at sdg. All of the consultants hold the same "Consultant" title which can be good or bad depending on where you are at in your career.
