Pros

They work with your schedule

Cons

At the end of the spring semester the department i worked for told me to have a good summer and to send them my fall schedule so I could resume work. Then the Friday before the beginning of the Fall semester they called me to tell me that they *actually* were “unable to rehire me” now . They said it was “due to issues” such as “my ability to alphabetize” and other minuscule critiques I was not aware of . It just didn’t add up. They had my role of student assistant posted on the job board for the majority of the semester . Just felt shady. Also put me in a predicament because I had just signed a lease and suddenly the weekend before school I find out I’m unemployed.

Pros

Friendly coworkers and growth-focused environment. Beautiful grounds to walk and take breaks in. Feels good serving students' learning goals.

Cons

Unlike most state employees, we do not have step raises. Expect to be hired at the lowest end of the salary range. We typically get 2.5 or 3% general salary increase per year but this has been frozen since COVID.
