Pros

Numerous Hours Available. Flexible Scheduling. Many centers around the US if you are planning to move which makes a transfer very nice.

Cons

Didn't feel well taken care of by management.

Pros

Sorenson caption call had really good benefits for full time employees, there was a strong geek culture at Caption Call that showed itself in various ways, and the work was really straight forward and easy once you got the hang of it (provided the voice recognition software didn't decide to go screwy on you)

Cons

There were some hiccups in the development of the company that led to them having very strict policies for privacy on the call floor, to the point of going into micromanagement mode. This led to the feeling of being mistrusted by the management and there is no bigger morale killer than feeling like you aren't trusted by the people who hired you to be professional. Trying to get time off, or even sick time was a pain in the rear. It took weeks to hear back from operations on whether you got PTO or sick time, and when you did get approved chances are it would be revoked mere days before you were due to have the time off. More than once I've heard about employees accruing attendance points on their record because they had no other option than to call in absent or sick for the day simply because their time off was denied when it had previously been approved. There are no open door policies at Sorenson. I didn't know what one department had to do with the next. I knew I was there to clock in my 7.5 hours and clock them out, no questions asked about procedures, or how things were going in other departments. I would hear one thing from training about how to correct a mistake on my software, then another thing from IT on what I should do for the software. Trying to get clarification from my manager wasn't much help because most of the time middle management was just as much in the dark as the CA's were! Communication is not their strong suit. There were a few other issues, like the feeling anyone who was in any other department in the Caption Call building was just glad to be off the call floor, and whenever you presented a discontentment to management you'd be told "well the video relayers have it harder"...the video relayers got massages and fruit every week too though, and our job had it's different stressors that DID need to be addressed and WEREN'T. There might also be a chance that their software will get hacked by people who want to steal tax information from the employees. I know it's been rough guys, the FCC can be a pain, but don't skimp on computer security stuff!
