Pros

I came to SpaceX from another US based aerospace company, and was immediately surprised at the quick pace of design and manufacturing. Management is constantly looking for performance and reliability improvements, and new concepts are implemented within weeks or months. That can be nerve-wracking, but it leads to a very dynamic and exciting company culture. Management is very approachable, and they do a good job of rewarding employees for good performance. There are spot bonuses that range from $500 to $10,000+, and plenty of room for career advancement. Direct salary might be less than a traditional aerospace company, but the internal stock grants more than make up the difference. Buybacks throughout the year make it easy to liquidate that form of compensation.

Cons

Work/life balance is a con you will hear from a lot of people, but many employees find it to be quite manageable. It is all about time management, and you need to be as efficient as possible at work. Expect to work more than at a traditional aerospace company, but it is reasonable to have most weekends and evenings free.

Pros

- Extremely cool place to work. We really are changing the world. Working for an eccentric billionaire to help create the future of commercial spaceflight and exploration is something that blows people's minds and is extremely exciting, every day. - Launch days are awesome! It's extremely rewarding to watch the culmination of all your hard work result in sending something to orbit every few weeks. - Engineers have flexible work hours. You can work the hours that fit your schedule best. Hours aren't really tracked, the results of your work are. Most people are very passionate about what they do and choose to work long hours. But you have the flexibility you need to go to doctors appointments, etc. without hassle. Most managers are also very supportive of people working from home if needed. - Delicious, healthy food options, at great subsidized prices. Free espresso and fro-yo! - On-site healthcare! Primary Care Physicians, Mental Health, Physical Therapy, and Dentistry!

Cons

Even though it's really exciting, sometimes, it's hard to remember you're working on the leading edge of commercial spaceflight technology when you're immersed in it day-in-day-out. Schedule pressure and frequent last minute changes in strategic direction weigh people down. People get jaded. Burn-out is common.
