The disconnect from upper management is staggering and it's painfully obvious during the pandemic. I have a store full of scared (mostly new) employees that I'm trying to keep focused. As a Leader, I'm actively trying to limit crowds from coming in the store, driving around hoping to find supplies to sanitize, and even jumping on a workstation myself to serve customers. Meanwhile, I'm getting emails with deadlines for things that probably can wait until things go back to normal. It's probably not the time for terse emails.
Again, I have a store full of scared employees. It doesn't matter if the business thinks it's justified or not. Now is not the time for me to talk about "Sales Rallying Cries", Account reviews to keep the customer in the store longer, or trying to use the mobile calculator while six feet apart. This comes off as disconnected and uncaring to my scared team. We should be focusing on the essentials to serve our community, not upselling and metrics.
To be honest, I get more communication on selling than keeping our teams safe and healthy.
I'm starting to get the distinct feeling of being disposable to anyone higher than my Area Manager and most of the other ASMs are feeling it too (Hint, Look at your ASM retention.
A lot of us newer managers were thrown into the fire and yeah anyone under a year with the company is still "new" and learning their role. Again some understanding will go a long way here.
