Pros

Good benefits and vacation policies (depends on where you’re coming from).

Cons

First, low compensations compared to other industries. If you like corporate work you can ignore this. For everyone else: it doesn’t matter how much you know or what you know, your expertise will be siphoned for results, NOT for your development, NOT in light of your knowledge, just to get the next person above you what they need to stay afloat. Management does not know how to properly manage tech professionals. They think they know what they’re talking about and how to approach teamwork and collaboration and they use that to steer the ship into foggy waters. Managers need to be experts in who they lead in tech, but they’re absolutely not here. Keep on looking, I’m sorry, I know it’s hard out there.

Pros

Working on a job site gave me a real sense of how buildings and infrastructure come together—seeing designs turn into reality is extremely rewarding. You gain practical skills quickly, from managing materials to understanding reinforcement and concrete work. It’s a great way to meet experienced engineers and learn from them directly.

Cons

Safety is always a concern, so you need to stay alert at all times.

Pros

Reasonable pay Technical expertise means steady employment Decent benefits and plenty of vacation.

Cons

No training provided -- you're on your own to figure out your job. Mid-level management tends toward technological cluelessness. Senior management features many hide-bound old "cable dogs." Historical lack of competition (once a cable company had a franchise contract, it had no competition for the market in the area) resulted in a corporate culture disinclined to embrace disruptive innovations or reforms. Rising competition from streaming services, big tech corps and satellite providers pose existential threats to the business model for which Spectrum seems little prepared.
