Pros

A young journalist can get LOTS of hands on experience in the #1 news market in the country. You cover stories some people wait entire careers to experience. Work environment is extremely friendly. Many in the newsroom are real friends outside of work. The newsroom doesn't have the cutthroat feel of the network affiliates in the city. Healthcare coverage for staffers is very, very good and affordable.

Cons

Pay is abysmal, unsustainable for a single adult trying to make a comfortable life for themselves in New York City.
