Pros

You will meet some great people. Decent snacks and great espresso machine. Happy hours and parties. Interesting business model that is fun to sell.

Cons

Sales is viewed culturally as 2nd class. Strong divide between development and sales (not that unusual), but more disturbingly between marketing and sales. Especially given Spiceworks is a marketing company. Lots of ongoing tension. Discrimantes against non-millineals and perfers mainly privledged mid-level career white males or young white females/males for career entry.

Thanks for the time at Spiceworks and sorry it didn't work out. 2016 was a tough transition year for us but I'm proud of the changes we made and how well we've entered 2017, well positioned for a great future. I'm having a hard time understanding the view that sales is viewed 2nd class. I wish you had seen me to talk about that before you left. We've invested in the sales team and we're doing even more in 2017 with new leadership and great training. Regarding tension with dev and marketing, while that will nearly always happen to some degree in companies it is certainly something we don't want. I'm confident in 2017 that will improve as we've aligned the company to fewer and more clear priorities. Tensions usually arise when those aren't aligned.

You are correct, we've evolved and we're not the same business we were 5 years ago ... or even 1 year ago. As I've suggested in other responses no business should "be what it used to be". At it's core though we remain dedicated to our mission to help IT pros do their job better every day. And we remain dedicated to our culture of hiring passionate & creative people who like to get stuff done -- with other good people whom they look forward to working with every day. I'm glad you pointed out that we have intelligent and friendly people. I'm surprised you also thought there "quite a few unfriendly people". We're usually able to sort out those situations. I don't follow the 'grasping at straws' comment. We have a lot of experience in IT and advertising and in terms of Austin start-ups we have gotten to a scale few have seen. We've explained the changes we're making and we finished '16 on a high note and have a great start on 2017.

Pros

I've been working at Spiceworks for 10 months now and, without a doubt, the best employer I have worked for. The recruitment process was an important part in influencing my decision in joining the business. The recruiter handled me well, unlike most do in the industry, never pressured me into doing days that I couldn't attend and gave me in detailed feed back after every step. You also got to meet majority of the senior members of the company, which doesn't happen in most intereviews, this gave me an opporunity to get an understanding of the direction of the business and really buy into it. When going through the interview process a lot of promises were made around the company culture, the autonomous nature of the role etc. It was giving it'self a lot to deliver on. But within the first 1 month of being here (London Office) it became very clear that these promises were being delivered on. The whole office is welcoming and there is a lot of an opportunity for after work social life. Our fantastic HR team are very proactive in making sure there is a sense of togetherness and culture, so they regularly organise dinners, nights out etc. Specific to the role, as a sales person I feel its important that management trust in your ability to do your job well. At Spiceworks they do just that. The product we sell is unique to the market and in comparison to our competitors, they can't come close to offering what we can. In sales this is great as it gives you a unique USP and makes your job easier. The company it'self is going in the right direction, they are hiring talented and bright individuals to help push us forward and investing more and more into us as employees. To summarise, coming to the end of my first 10 months and im already looking forward to the next 30.

Cons

Holiday is a bit under competitive but I have heard this is under review.
