Pros

Fantastic work ethic, team spirit among individual groups and employees.

Cons

Senior Management hasn't got a clue about the software business. Zero personal skills, communication with staff is among the worst I've seen in 35 years in the business. Used to be a leader in Healthcare Call Center (Which Amcom and predecessor companies built), now chasing the tail of startups and Healthcare giants, with a pipedream for success, based on a me-to strategy.

Significant changes have occurred at Spok since Amcom Software merged with USA Mobility back in 2011. In 2014, we changed our name to Spok, and we began to build a new senior leadership team with seven very talented executives with software experience from successful companies such as Medtronic, Symantek, Intermedix, Cerner, Siemens and McKesson. This included such roles as CFO, COO, CTO, CIO, EVP Sales, SVP, Professional Services, SVP Marketing, and VP of Development. This does not include all the leaders we’ve hired in middle management with software experience including SaaS. While today we’re still a leader in Call Center software sales, it is unrealistic to think that on premise software holds the key to the future in healthcare call centers or elsewhere. Technology is moving to the Cloud and Spok is investing in software innovation and is on a pathway to adapt and move our software technology into the Cloud. Not everyone adapts easily to changes in the workplace, and although we’ve communicated broadly in meetings, presentations and newsletters the need for these changes in the company, we can understand if you find our transformation to SaaS overwhelming or unwelcome. We hope you are able to find a pathway for your future that aligns with the type of work you find rewarding and provides you a more positive outlook. Thank you for your feedback and your contributions to Spok.

I’m sorry that your experience at Spok was not more positive. Yes, the company is committed to change and innovation, but we also know that change is never easy. Although our customers send out over 100 million paging messages a month, Spok is well on its way to providing state of the art software technology with SaaS in the cloud. Our priority is to provide for our customers’ needs, and many of our customers still require pagers for their reliability. We remain committed to our 2200+ customers, including those using paging and on premise Spok solutions, but our vision is to improve communication and collaboration in healthcare via our innovative software platform. To support Spok’s transition, we must align some of our roles, including management roles, with the skills and abilities that are needed for success in the SaaS software world. In spite of recent changes in management, Spok’s management team still reflects stability with an average tenure of 11+ years.
