Pros

Stand Together is at a really cool point in time. It was founded in 2003, and 20 years later, we are about 1300 employees - which is pretty large for a non-profit. It's at this sweet spot where it doesn't feel like a start up that doesn't have the funds, employees or process to get off the ground. And it also doesn't feel like a super large organization that has too many employees with too much red tape, leaving those feeling like a cog in the wheel. What it does feel like - is this perfect point in time where we can get things done. Each employee matters and each employee can make an impact. More than any other company I have worked at (I've worked in Tech for the last 10 years) this organization is extremely open to a "challenge" culture and being flexible and openminded to get things done. No one is shooting down ideas and everyone is open minded to doing things in a different way than was done before. Honestly, it feels refreshing. Overall, working here has felt enjoyable, balanced, thoughtful and motivating.

Cons

We don't know what we don't know. Oftentimes, we're trying something out to see if it works, then quickly pivoting if it doesn't. At times, that can feel frustrating. You have to make sure you are consistently connected to the mission & vision in order to drive forward an ever moving target. Additionally, Stand Together is very intentional about getting the right people in the right seats. Doing homework on the company and what the role is, is very important. Interviews tend to be more extensive than other companies, which can feel over the top until you get in here and understand the role each interviewer is playing in the interview process.

Pros

The mission is good. The idea behind it is good. The work itself can be satisfying.

Cons

It's an unhappy place and people are churned in and out. They'll hire you and consider your employment a long-term interview. Some do well, others don't. I'd say half of the dozens who started the same month as me were gone before the end of a year. Everyone is smiling on the outside, but there is unhappiness brewing below the surface of many employees.
