Pros

Nice campus, smart people, learning culture, decent benefits, excellent vacation / holiday schedule. Great opportunities for speakers, performances, art / culture, round-tables - if you take the time to seek them out. Fun sports program. Excellent Health / wellness program (though that seems to be making some changes for the worst)....

Cons

With the astronomical cost of living, and especially housing, in the Bay Area, anyone not in the very top levels of management (or Faculty) will struggle just to make ends meet. Stanford is a big organization and requires a lot of processes and procedures to keep running. These have become more stifling in recent years, and in many cases, make it harder to do my job, less efficient, and don't allow me to keep the focus on the customers and clients (students, faculty) because I am so busy struggling with internal processes, tasks and checklists.

Pros

Depends on the lab. Some arent bad.

Cons

On the whole, the department is pretty bad. Most postdocs feel miserable and regret choosing it. Same goes for a lot of the graduate students. Little to no support from the department itself and some of the PI's are ridiculously bad at managing and can be outright condescending/sabatoging/cruel. Go to UCSF or Cal if you must be in Norcal.

Pros

Nice facilities, nice staff, great students.

Cons

Argumentative professors, professors who don't reply or respond to staff, professors who have no interest in having relationships with others. A school culture strongly focused on money and a narrow definition of success.
