Pros

Very hands on. You get to know regular customers.

Cons

Disorganized. You get customers at the counter PLUS random online orders from two different ordering systems that do not sync with the in store orders for timing, so you're expected to complete orders on a very inefficient timeline. Also, despite the fact that proofs are given and customers sign documents saying they approve of what you're making, management will blame you if the customer decides they don't want to pay for it for whatever reason. You're expected to reach in-store budget and promotional goals despite also being required to ask customers if they want to order online from the print hub (usually a third or less of the in-store price) and hand out coupons for ordering prints out of store.

Pros

Employees are rewarded for good behavior and good sales driving.

Cons

Corporate expects a lot out of these stores that are slowly failing due to unpreventable circumstances. Management is utterly berated for bad numbers even when everyone is performing. Staples only has room for growth if you move up and switch into supervising/management positions, otherwise your wage basically stagnates while you are there. There are constant openings because no one wants to stay here longer than they need to, just like every other retail position. In regards to the Copy Center specifically, the training is terrible (you're thrown into a world of unknown).

Pros

I was fortunate to have great managers during my time at Staples. They gave feedback, both positive and negative, and helped to find solutions when problems arose.

Cons

Not enough hours to make a decent living. Often short handed because corporate does not allow enough hours to fully cover the store.
