Great co-workers, corporate is terrible and out of touch
Pros
Good co-workers, schedule has flexibility, can be laid back depending on day/ time of year.
Cons
Very low pay and high amount of responsibilities by most other retail standards. Corporate only cares about workers getting people to download the Staples Connect app at the register. A good percentage of the customer base is elderly and does not know how to use their cell phone, which brings the checkout process to a grinding halt. A bigger percentage of the customer base just wants to get their stuff and get out and not be bothered about an app with lackluster coupons. Corporate is also cutting hours dramatically and increasing the amount of services offered by Staples by a ridiculous amount. This means that just aobut everyone has to be cross-trained to some degree in every department. For example, Amazon returns were just implemented, which brings pretty much no benefit to the company or workers, and only wastes everyone's time when they could instead be working on print orders, attending to customer needs, etc. I'm convinced that no one in corporate has stepped foot in a retail environment in over a decade. The pay is laughable for amount of responsibilities laid on the workers, on top of hours already being cut dramatically. It's all indicative of a company that is ultimately failing, and will continue to do so if the company continues down the road of implementing more and more services without implementing the labor hours or pay required for it.
